A MAJOR retailer which is set to open in Barrhead has chosen a good cause to officially unveil their new store.

Colleagues at B&M, which is set to open in the town’s new retail park on Saturday, June 17, opted to give East Renfrewshire Food Bank “VIP treatment”.

The team at the new store were asked to select a local charity that they think truly deserves to be highlighted for the work they do in the area.

The food bank aims to combat poverty and hunger in the community, by supporting residents who are in crisis and providing three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food to those in need.

They have a team of dedicated volunteers who put together food parcels, using a person-centred approach by catering to individual needs to ensure that their support has maximum impact.

We previously reported the new bargain store will stock a wide variety of branded groceries, including a range of food, drink, and pet food, and it will also sell health and beauty products, homeware, toys, and much more.

It will also feature a garden centre and create 45 new jobs for the area.

The store manager said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.

“East Renfrewshire Food Bank really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
