A GLASGOW fishmonger shop described as a "hidden gem" by its customers has shut down.

Fyne Shellfish Shawlands, on Springhill Gardens, announced its closure via social media yesterday.

Bosses revealed factors contributing to the decision included risings costs.

A post on Facebook read: "Hi Everyone. You will be aware we have been in limbo with the shop the last few weeks. With all the pros and cons, staff, parking, rising costs, fish stall at market, and no time to ourselves, we have decided to call it a day for now.

"This is with a heavy heart. We will miss seeing all of you, some of our customers were our first eight years ago and still were to the last day.

"The shop was never about money, it was about bringing what we catch from our boats from Tarbert Loch Fyne to Glasgow at an affordable price and to let people know what’s there in the Clyde unlike what the media portray."

Bosses went on to thank everyone involved in their journey before adding: "And of course, the CUSTOMERS you all taught me so much. Thanks and sorry everyone till we meet again."

Dozens of people reacted to the sad news.

One person said: "Thanks for all those times when you helped me with my orders. You always had the freshest and tastiest seafood around. It will be challenging to fill the void created by your absence. I am going to miss you both—best of luck."

Another added: "No way! I’m so sorry! You were a hidden gem, always plenty of excellent, sometimes exotic stock at amazing prices."

Another customer wrote: "Oh no. This was a real bonus and asset to have locally. Is there a way to come and buy up any last stock? Hopefully, you find a new way to bring Loch Fyne to Glasgow."

Someone said: "Very sorry to hear that as you were my first choice fishmonger. All the best and thanks for all the great produce."
