The Community Hub at Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire is hosting a volunteer fair to showcase the “incredible work” people have been doing across the area and to encourage more people to get involved.

The event from 1pm to 4.30pm on June 1 at the Rouken Glen Park Pavilion will kick off Volunteers Week which runs until June 7.

The week runs every year to celebrate the contribution many people make across the UK through volunteering.

The fair follows a successful similar event at Barrhead Foundry in March.

A number of groups and organisations will be joining to promote their volunteer roles.

VAER say that “without the dedication of volunteers, so many local people would be unable to receive the support and help they currently do” and at a challenging time for groups and organisations, "the need for volunteers has never been greater."

Alan Campbell, the deputy chief officer of the organisation, added: “Volunteers’ Week provides us with a great opportunity to thank everyone who has volunteered to make our communities in East Ren a better place to live throughout the year.

“We’ll be celebrating all that is positive about being a volunteer.

“The 3rd/community sector would be lost without the amazing efforts of our local volunteers.

"We hope to welcome as many people as possible to come along and find out more about the benefits volunteering can bring.”
