AN opticians in Clarkston has changed ownership after one of their founders has retired after 35 years.

This comes after John Burnside, who created Burnside McPhee Opticians along with Allan McPhee, recently stepped down from the practice.

Due to this, the opticians which has been in the town since 1988 will now be taken over by an award-winning clinic – Urquhart’s Opticians.

As part of the move, Mary Jeffery and Lorraine Allan who worked at Burnside McPhee’s will move over to the new practice, while they will also be joined by Andrew Mostyn who has been at Urquhart’s for almost three years.

Managing director Peter Telfer said: “We’re excited to be expanding in Clarkston and looking forward to getting to know the patients and becoming part of the community.

“It is our first move back into Glasgow, having previously had a practice on Dumbarton Road up until 2015.

“We’re planning on refitting the practice by the end of the year and introducing a range of new equipment and frames, that will reflect the clinical offering across all of our practices.

“Caring for our community is at the very heart of everything that we do and delivering the highests levels of clinical care is our priority.

“Our Care & Community Fund gives local charities and community groups the chance to apply for a share of up to £1,000 every other month.”

Peter continued to say: “We’re looking forward to doing our bit to benefit the community here in Clarkston.”

Urquhart’s is a well-established, independent opticians based in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
