An outdoor class aimed at mums has launched in Barrhead as part of a series of new fitness sessions across East Renfrewshire.

Buggy Fit at Cowan Park takes place on Mondays at 9.30am and is focused on strengthening core and pelvic muscles.

It is led by fitness instructor Liz Rae and the first outdoor workout, attended by local mums and their little ones, was offered for free.

Lisa said: "I'm a mum of two and know the struggle to fit in exercise around wee ones.

“The class has a big core focus to strengthen all those core and pelvic floor muscles that pregnancy weakens.

"All levels of fitness are welcome so please don't let the 'I'm not fit enough' gremlins put you off.

“Buggy Fit is to get you fit and hopefully make some new friends and have a bit of fun too."

Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and toys for their child to the sessions.

Those coming along are also advised to wear layers and clothing they would not mind getting muddy and to bring gloves, a mat and water.

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure (ERCL) hosts a number of classes for pre-school children, including Little Splashers classes at Neilston Leisure Centre on Mondays at 10.15am and Barrhead Foundry at 10.15am and 11am.

The trust has also added a range of new classes to its extensive fitness timetable.

Instructor Lisa is also hosting two new Body Attack classes, which will take place on Wednesdays at 9.30am at Eastwood Park Leisure and Barrhead Foundry at 12.15pm.

A new weekly outdoor bootcamp has started at Eastwood High Sports Centre on Saturdays at 8.30am, while a Dance Fit class is starting at Eastwood Park Leisure on Wednesdays at 5.15pm with instructor Sylvia Campbell.

An additional two new Spin classes join Barrhead Foundry's timetable, with an early morning class on Wednesdays at 6.30am, with new instructor George Gibson, and Thursdays at 5.15pm.

Neilston Leisure Centre will see a new Aqua Fit class hosted on Mondays at 6pm.

Kenny McDonnell from ERCL said: "We are pleased to add to our fitness class timetable, led by our exceptional team of instructors, to support East Renfrewshire residents in keeping active and supporting their fitness goals.

"Our fitness membership offers access to three gyms, three swimming pools and over 100 fitness classes per week and we look forward to welcoming new and existing members along to make the most of our facilities and support."

Classes can be booked on the ER Leisure app.
