SEVERAL actions to improve the delivery of Covid jabs in East Renfrewshire as part of the Spring booster rollout have been implemented.

This comes after Jackson Carlaw MSP raised issues with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde from concerned residents about the Autumn vaccination programme at the Carmichael Hall centre in Giffnock.

According to the MSP, locals faced long queues when waiting to receive a vaccine and some appointments were cancelled on-site.

When Carlaw raised the issue with the health board at the time, they advised that they were facing challenges such as staffing affecting the delivery of the programme.

At the start of April, the MSP for Eastwood contacted NHSGCC to find out what had been put in place to ensure a smooth delivery of spring Covid jabs.

They advised that there is now a permanent workforce for Immunisation Delivery and work had been taking place to recruit and train more staff.

Jackson Carlaw, Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, said: “As part of the previous autumn Covid booster rollout, many of my constituents reported a disappointing experience at Carmichael Hall and this was a serious concern.

“It is welcome that health officials have sought to address the previous difficulties at the vaccination centre and taken steps to tackle the challenge encountered with staff levels.

“I hope that the measures introduced will ensure the smooth delivery of vaccinations for the duration of the Spring programme in the local area.”

NHSGGC confirmed all residents in Eastwood aged over 75 had received letters with scheduled appointments and vaccinations commenced on April 11.

While booster jabs for vulnerable people with weakened immune systems under the age of 75 commenced on April 24.
