East Renfrewshire’s head pupils have been honoured at a special prizegiving for the “amazing” contribution they have made to their schools this year.

The 17 pupils all received awards at the event at Eastwood House, in Eastwood Park, in Giffnock.

In attendance were pupils from Barrhead High School, St Luke’s, Woodfarm, Eastwood, St Ninian’s, Williamwood, Mearns Castle and Isobel Mair School.

Councillor Andrew Anderson, convenor for education, equalities, culture and leisure, was on hand to give out the glass trophies and certificates.

Cllr Anderson, who gave a speech at the ceremony, told the Barrhead News: "It was wonderful to be able to celebrate all these fantastic young people who have been a credit to their schools whilst carrying out the many roles undertaken as head pupils.

“From leading fundraising initiatives to being role models for younger pupils, this group of young people have been an integral part of their schools and wider communities.

“Well done to them all and good luck for the future."
