People of all ages laced up their trainers for a festival of running and walking in Uplawmoor on Saturday.

The event, aimed at all abilities, coined in a total of £435 through entry fees, a bake sale and a raffle.

This money will now be donated to the Trussell Trust, which operates a network of foodbanks.

Event organiser John O’Donnell said: “The unanimous feedback received is that it was a great success.”

On the day, there were three events – a 1km race for those of primary school age, a 3km route for those who are at high school and a 9km course for adults.

Dozens of runners took part, with some travelling from the likes of Dumbarton and Cumbernauld.

John organised the event in a bid to reignite interest in bringing back Uplawmoor’s community gala day, which included a run when it was staged prior to Covid.

He said: “Many people have already volunteered their support for the run and gala day next year.”
