Humza Yousaf has won the race to replace Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader.
The current Health Secretary defeated Finance Secretary Kate Forbes and former community safety minister Ash Regan for the top job.
Ms Sturgeon announced last month that she would stand down as First Minister after more than eight years in the role once her successor had been chosen.
SNP members had until noon today to cast their vote, with the fate of the three candidates revealed at the BT Murrayfield stadium, in Edinburgh, just moments ago.
A vote in Holyrood will follow tomorrow to select the next first minister.
It has not been a smooth leadership contest for the party, with acrimonious clashes between candidates and the dramatic resignation of chief executive Peter Murrell following controversy over the transparency of SNP membership numbers.
