Bus passengers, cyclists and pedestrians in East Renfrewshire are to benefit from improvements worth more than half a million pounds.

The funding is being provided by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and includes £300,000 for a "strategic cycle corridor" on the busy A77.

There will also be £200,000 for pedestrian and cycling improvements elsewhere in East Renfrewshire, as well as £50,000 for bus infrastructure improvements.

The £550,000 funding package is part of a £14.5million payout being allocated to councils and other SPT delivery partners this year for transport improvements across the Strathclyde area.

Each of the projects being backed will support Strathclyde’s new Regional Transport Strategy, which will be launched this year and aims to improve accessibility, affordability and connectivity of transport across the area, as well as reducing carbon emissions and promoting active travel.

Stephen Dornan, SPT chair, said: “Despite challenging financial pressures, we are making transport in our area greener, more connected and more reliable and accessible to all.

“Our investment programme announced today will ensure communities, residents and businesses across East Renfrewshire can share in the benefits of improved public transport and active travel.

“We are proud to announce this funding and look forward to working with the local authority and others to progress these projects and deliver transport improvements across the region.”
