Another life has been lost to Covid-19 in East Renfrewshire.

Latest figures released by National Records of Scotland (NRS), covering the week ending March 19, show the total number of deaths in the area since the pandemic began has increased to 331.

Across the country as a whole, 25 of the 32 council areas had at least one fatality involving coronavirus in the latest weekly figures as the death toll rose by 56, pushing the overall total up to 17,063.

Worst hit was Glasgow, which had six deaths, followed by Edinburgh, which had five, and Fife, North Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders, each of which had four.

The figures released by NRS cover all fatalities where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

People across East Renfrewshire were encouraged to observe a minute's silence at noon yesterday to mark all of the lives lost during the pandemic on the third anniversary of the first lockdown.

The National Day of Reflection was led by end-of-life charity Marie Curie.
