A CHARITY which provides free school uniforms for children across East Renfrewshire has been handed a welcome windfall.

Back to SchoolBank East Renfrewshire makes sure every local youngster in need is provided with a new uniform, as well as bags, PE kit, hats, gloves, scarves, a winter coat and stationery.

Now it has been handed a £250 grant from leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey West Scotland.

It is a timely boost, as demand for help from local parents has risen during the cost-of-living crisis.

Sandra Douglas, founder of Back to SchoolBank East Renfrewshire, said: “This latest donation from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland gives us a welcome boost to provide warm winter coats for children to wear to school.

“Each year, we distribute new school uniform and school items to hundreds of families across East Renfrewshire and the winter months sees many families seeking help for warm clothing and coats.

“The need for our services is growing fast and this donation from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland is so helpful.”

Taylor Wimpey currently has sites at Duncarnock, in Barrhead, and Maidenhill, in Newton Mearns.

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We have been part of various local communities across East Renfrewshire for many years now and we welcome this opportunity to be involved in such an important local charity.

“Being able to work with local charities and organisations where we build new homes means a great deal to us and it’s always lovely to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in our local communities.”
