Labour MSP Paul O’Kane insists “the future of politics looks bright” after he teamed up with young people for a series of initiatives.

Mr O’Kane is pictured with Eilidh Simmers, who is one of three students he has mentored through the John Smith internship.

Run by the University of Glasgow, it offers students the chance to work under an MSP for 10 weeks to gain experience of politics.

Mr O’Kane, who represents East Renfrewshire as part of his West Scotland remit, also held an online event with pupils from Woodfarm High in which he was quizzed about LGBT+ issues.

Later that day, he attended a Vision Schools presentation at Holyrood, where he learned about work being done to educate young people about the Holocaust.

Mr O’Kane said: “I’ve come away convinced that the future of politics is looking bright because of this next generation.”
