Another two lives have been lost to Covid-19 in East Renfrewshire.

Data released by National Records of Scotland (NRS), covering the week ending January 22, shows the total number of deaths in the area since the pandemic began has risen to 323.

It is the second consecutive week in which two Covid fatalities have been recorded in East Renfrewshire.

Across Scotland as a whole, 27 of the 32 council areas had at least one fatality involving coronavirus in the latest weekly figures as the death toll rose by 83, pushing the overall total up to 16,654.

Worst hit was Glasgow, which had 14 deaths, followed by Fife, which had nine, and Edinburgh, which had eight.

The figures released by NRS cover all fatalities where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
