A KILWINNING child day care centre has received the highest of praise from an industry watchdog.

Rainbow Childcare on Kilwinning's Howgate were visited by the Care Inspectorate, who came unnannounced, back in November of last year.

Three inspectors spent a full day at the facility - speaking to children, staff and management as well as providing questionnaires to parents.

They also observed practice and the facilities and reviewed a sample of relevant documents throughout their near seven hour visit.

Four categories were assessed by the watchdog; How good is our care, play and learning?; How good is our setting?; How good is our leadership?; and How good is our staff team?

And very little flaws, if any, could be found within the day care's practices - as they received the second highest '5 - Very Good' rating across the board.

Further to this, prior areas of improvement set for the centre based on previous visits had also been met.

Rainbow Childcare were asked to further minimise the risk of infection and cross contamination, to maximise the use of outdoors and support children's wellbeing management and that staff should review the layout of the indoor and outdoor environment.

The Care Inspectorate noted that several actions had been taken to make these improvements since they were set in July of 2021.

Amongst the glowing report, the watchdog detailed how they came to rate the service so highly.

The document reads: "Children were confident, happy, settled and engaged in play, motivated to learn whilst having fun."

While it also added: "Children experienced caring and nurturing interactions which supported them to be confident and happy."

While based on previous areas for improvement, it continued: "Children benefited from an indoor environment that was fun, stimulating and organised to meet their individual developmental needs and importance was placed on play and learning outdoors."

Staff were also in for high praise, with the report noting: "Management and staff had created a culture of improvement involving children and their families, considering what was working well and what could be improved on."

Though one small area that the centre was asked to focus on moving forward was noted.

The report added that "staff deployment after lunch times in the Little Acorns room should be reviewed".

Rainbow Childcare is a nursery type facility in two standalone buildings - one being the cottage and the other the church. There are four enclosed outdoor areas children can access.

At the childcare centre, children have opportunities for outings within the community to local shops, playparks and green spaces.
