East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure will offer warm, welcoming spaces and free activities this winter.

Locals can enjoy festive singalongs, children's activities, stories and crafts, family board games, knitting, colouring therapy and folk music for free at its 10 libraries during the winter months.

Residents are also encouraged to make the most of the free resources available including free wifi and PC access and, of course, there's the opportunity to 'pick up a good book and find a cosy nook'.

Three leisure centres - Barrhead Foundry, Eastwood Park and Neilston Leisure - will also offer warm, welcome spaces for the public to access during opening hours.

Barrhead News:

Anthony McReavy, of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: "This winter, we're waiting to welcome people along to our libraries. We have lined up a range of activities for all ages to enjoy for free and we encourage residents to come along and take part. You can, as always, discover the latest books on offer, too, or access a quiet space in one of our leisure centres."

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure is part of the local community of organisations and groups providing support to residents during the cost-of-living crisis. The spaces are open to residents who wish to access advice, participate in activities or simply spend time somewhere warm. Visit eastrencommunityhub.org.uk for full details.

Ruth Gallagher, chief officer of Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire, said: "Thanks to the amazing collaboration across our third, public and independent sector partners, we've been able to gather initial information that begins to map out the spaces and places already used by our communities; spaces where we come together to socialise, learn new skills, participate in hobby activities and access support services.

"Everyone may need a little bit of extra support at some point in their lives, so whatever your circumstances, it is okay to ask for help. If you'd prefer to talk with someone about what information or support you may need, please call the Community Hub on 0141 876 9555."
