RESIDENTS in North Kelvinside are facing changes to their bin collection due to a rat infestation.

People living in Lyndhurst Gardens and Lothian Lane have been contacted by Glasgow City Council after the infestation left collection crews "unable to access the bins safely".

The bins have now been moved to nearby pavements for residents to dispose of waste.

In a letter sent by the council, and seen by the Glasgow Times, residents were told: "We are experiencing issues in relation to refuse collection within the above locations [Lyndhurst Gardens/ Lothian Lane] due to a rat infestation.

"Our refuse collection crews are now unable to access the bins safely.

"As a result, a temporary measure to have bins sited at suitable locations within the pavement nearby for residents to utilise will be implemented immediately."

The letter added that residents will be contacted to discuss a long-term solution to the problem.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "As a temporary measure, we have sited bins at suitable locations on nearby pavements for residents to dispose of their waste.

"Our Neighbourhood Liaison Team will be engaging with residents to discuss a longer-term solution."
