Barrhead will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland this weekend as the town begins the countdown to Christmas with its annual festive lights switch-on.

Those heading along can expect lots of entertainment, stalls and Santa’s Grotto, which will be located within the Barrhead Foundry on Saturday.

Children can meet Mr Claus and get a present for £5, with all money raised going to East Renfrewshire Good Causes.

Andy Dunlop, manager of All About Barrhead, which is organising the celebrations, is encouraging people of all ages to join in the fun.

He said: “Barrhead’s Winter Wonderland officially kicks off the festive period in the town and All About Barrhead – the town’s Business Improvement District – invite you along for a day of live entertainment, funfair rides, a Christmas market, free rickshaw rides and the main man himself, Santa Claus, in his grotto.”

Ten prizes of £100, two prizes of £250 and one prize of £500 will be given to winners chosen at random who have had their photo taken at the festive gallery or in Santa’s Grotto.

Andy added: “All those who visit the grotto will be entered into a draw, with £2,000 of East Renfrewshire gift cards to be won. Proceeds from the grotto will also be donated to local families in need.

“The event, funded by Barrhead businesses, kicks off at noon, with the top prize winners being announced at 5.30pm.”
