Work to renew a synthetic sports pitch at an East Renfrewshire school has been completed.

The pitch at Mearns Castle High now has an improved playing surface, lighting and fencing.

It is used extensively by pupils and sports clubs and is also available for public use, outwith formal bookings, along with pitches at Muirend, Woodfarm and Barrhead High.

Stuart Clark, headteacher at the Newton Mearns school, said: “It’s fantastic to see this facility upgraded to such a high standard.

"Our pupils are already benefitting from the improved pitch, which will support the school in delivering high-quality sport and physical activity sessions.”

The pitch revamp is part of East Renfrewshire Council’s annual capital investment, which maintains parks, public spaces and other facilities.

Councillor Danny Devlin, East Renfrewshire's housing and environment convener, said: “The past 18 months has seen unprecedented investment in our parks, facilities and public spaces and I am delighted to see yet another completed project at Mearns Castle.

"I’m sure everyone who takes to the field will be delighted with the results.

"We’re committed to providing high-quality facilities for residents and visitors to East Renfrewshire and the works that have taken place across 2021 and 2022 are a testament to that.”
