A second cost of living payment is due to be paid to hundreds of thousands of households in Scotland next month.

The payout worth £324 follows from the £324 payment in July as part of the UK Government support package.

It will be paid to households in Scotland, England Wales and Northern Ireland who receive DWP benefits and be in bank accounts between November 8 and November 23.

In addition, pensioners will get a £300 payment this winter.

Around eight million homes across the UK are due the benefit - with around 800,000 in Scotland eligible.

The Government said to be eligible for the second payment, people must have been entitled to a payment of either: Universal Credit for an assessment period that ended in the period August 26 to September 25 or income-based Jobseeker Allowance, income-related Employment Support Allowance, Income Support or Pension Credit for any day in the period August 26 to September 25, 2022.

Some people who are not on any of the above benefits but who receive tax credits may also be eligible and will be paid automatically after the other payments are made.

Chloe Smith, UK work and pensions secretary, said: “Millions of families will soon see a £324 cash boost as part of our extensive £1200 support package, helping to raise incomes and manage the rising cost of living.

“We understand that people are struggling which is why we’re committed to supporting the most vulnerable households.”

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng added: “We know that people have been worried about their bills ahead of this winter, which is why we’ve taken decisive action to hold down energy bills, saving the average household around £1000 a year, and provided £1200 of targeted support to the most vulnerable.”
