A number of train services have been cancelled after an unexploded bomb was found near a railway line in East Renfrewshire.

The bomb was discovered at a construction site in Springfield Road, leading to disruption for passengers on the Muirend to Neilston line.

An exclusion zone has been set up by police for safety reasons.

In a message to passengers, a ScotRail spokesperson said: “You can use your tickets on the number 3, 54 and 103 buses while the situation is defused. We’re also getting replacement buses organised.

“It is likely the Muirend to Neilston line will now be closed until at least 18:00 today.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of an unexploded ordnance having been found at a construction site on Springfield Road at around 10.05am on Thursday, September 29.

“The road is closed and a cordon is in place. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been contacted.”
