East Renfrewshire’s MP met with the staff of two businesses in the area to celebrate their recent award success.

Both establishments were named winners in the Scottish Cafe Awards, which aims to showcase the efforts and dedication of those who ensure their customers receive high-quality beverages, food and snacks.

More than 200 professionals, including top baristas, coffee specialists and representatives of local cafes, were in attendance at the evening ceremony, which took place earlier this summer at the Marriott Hotel, in Glasgow.

Rouken Glen Garden Cafe, in Giffnock, won the prize for best Garden Centre Cafe of the year at the event, which was hosted by Capital FM presenter Gina McKie.

Ian’s Kitchen, in Eaglesham, won the award for the best cafe kitchen of the year.

Politician Kirsten Oswald congratulated both of the firms for picking up the accolades by publishing an Early Day Motion (EDM) in parliament and presenting this to both businesses.

Ms Oswald said: “It is great to see brilliant local businesses winning prestigious awards.

“Both Ian’s Kitchen and Rouken Glen Garden Café are businesses that are loved by locals and people who travel from further away to enjoy excellent customer service and quality produce.

“Cafes play an important role in keeping high streets vibrant, and it’s sometimes easy to forget that cafés also help tackle social exclusion and loneliness.

“I’m very grateful for both businesses allowing me the chance to call in and present my EDM to their staff.

“Both are absolutely deserving of their Scottish Cafe Award successes.

“If you haven’t already visited both, then I highly recommend you do.”
