Motorists are being warned to expect disruption as maintenance work leads to overnight closures at one of East Renfrewshire's busiest roads.

Work on the northbound M77 at Newton Mearns, between the Aurs Road overbridge and north of Waulkmill Glen Reservoir, will start on Sunday, August 14, and is due to continue until the morning of Thursday, August 25.

It will take place between 8pm and 6am each night and includes part of the northbound on-slip road at Junction 4.

The route will be open as normal outwith these times.

Engineers at Amey, which is carrying out the £424,000 project on behalf of Transport Scotland, said it will benefit around 25,000 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the road surface and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in future.

Full overnight closures will be in place between Junction 5 and Junction 3, with a signed diversion in operation.

Traffic will exit the northbound M77 at Junction 5 and follow the A77 Ayr Road north through Newton Mearns before taking the A727 Rouken Glen Road west to rejoin the motorway at Junction 3.

The closure of the Junction 4 on-slip road will mean traffic being diverted north along Stewarton Road to Spiersbridge Roundabout. From there, vehicles will join the A727 and follow the diversion to rejoin the M77 at Junction 3.

A spokesperson for Amey said: "All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable."
