Another two lives have been lost to Covid-19 in East Renfrewshire.

Latest figures released by National Records of Scotland (NRS), covering the week ending July 31, show the total number of fatalities in the area since the pandemic began more than two years ago has risen to 304.

Across Scotland as a whole, 29 of the 32 council areas had at least one fatality involving Covid last week as the death toll rose by 89, pushing the overall total up to 15,363.

Worst hit was Edinburgh, which had nine deaths, followed by Dumfries and Galloway, which had eight, and Fife and Glasgow, each of which had seven.

The figures differ from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths issued twice a week by Public Health Scotland, as the NRS statistics include suspected or probable cases of Covid.
