ANOTHER two lives have been lost to Covid-19 in East Renfrewshire.

Latest figures released by National Records of Scotland (NRS), covering the week ending June 19, reveal the total number of fatalities in the area since the pandemic began more than two years ago has risen to 294.

Across Scotland as a whole, 21 of the 32 council areas had at least one fatality involving Covid as the death toll rose by 41, pushing the overall total up to 14,901.

Worst hit was Fife, which had six deaths, followed by Glasgow and Aberdeenshire, each of which suffered four fatalities.

The figures differ from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths issued twice a week by Public Health Scotland, as the NRS statistics include suspected or probable cases of Covid.
