A GOLDEN celebration took place to mark the 50th anniversary of Barrhead Rotary.

East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald was among the guests at a dinner held at Fereneze Golf Club.

Also there were East Renfrewshire’s new provost Mary Montague and her predecessor Jim Fletcher, along with members of other Rotary clubs.

Barrhead Rotary first became a chartered club on May 26, 1972, and one of its founding members, Adrian Ward, spoke about some of the many local projects it has supported since then.

Guests also heard from Ian Macpherson, secretary of Barrhead Rotary, who spoke of the international and humanitarian work it has helped to fund.

Barrhead Rotary president Douglas Yates, who hosted the celebration, said: “We had about 50 Rotarians and guests who attended the dinner, which proved to be a great success.

“Our thanks go to the officials and staff at Fereneze Golf Club for hosting the occasion and to local Rotarians Ian Macpherson and Angela Samson, who did most of the organising.”
