Hundreds of youngsters proved they are good sports by taking part in this year’s East Renfrewshire Secondary School Games.

The full day of competitive sports featured a variety of activities, including football, basketball, tennis, lawn bowls, rugby and hockey.

These took place at six locations across East Renfrewshire, culminating in a prizegiving ceremony at the Barrhead Foundry.

Pupils from Williamwood High picked up the trophy as overall winners of the event, organised by the Active Schools team at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure (ERCL).

Anthony McReavy, of ERCL, told the Barrhead News: “The Secondary Games made a welcome return this year and we were excited to host this sporting event for more than 300 pupils in S1 to S3 from across the area.

“We want to congratulate all of the sports superstars from each high school who took part. It’s fantastic to see so many young people enjoying and excelling in sports activities.

“Well done to pupils at Williamwood High School, who took home the trophy this year after an excellent performance across all sports.”

Gary McGunnigle, Active Schools team leader, added: “My congratulations go to all of the participants for their efforts and a big thanks to all our sports club partners, ERCL staff and school staff who made the event so successful.”
