Police were able to drive home a vital safety message at an event attended by pupils from schools across East Renfrewshire.

Youngsters were joined by the area’s ‘campus cops’ for the gathering at Eastwood House, which was organised as part of Road Safety Week.

There were also presentations from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), Scottish Ambulance Service and East Renfrewshire Council staff on how to stay safe on and around local roads.

Police Scotland’s road safety mascot Jackton was there too and the pupils had the chance to speak to workers from the emergency services about their lifesaving roles.

Experts from the SFRS also staged a demonstration to show the children how they safely remove people from cars that have been involved in an accident.

Police chiefs said the event was a big success.

Chief Inspector Jane Taylor added: “It was great to have the children here and share our road safety messages with them, so they can take the information back and tell their schools about it.

“Partnership working is really important when it comes to road safety. It is only by working together that we make the roads safer for children and adults.”
