A NEW housing development in East Renfrewshire has provided a welcome cash boost to a respected charity.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes (ERGC) receives a ‘roof donation’ from every property completed by Cala Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey West Scotland at the Maidenhill development, in Newton Mearns.

The charity has now received a fourth donation through the scheme.

This time, ERGC banked £2,700, which is the result of 54 legal completions for both homebuilders since the last handover took place.

The overall total donated during the partnership now stands at £14,450.

ERGC was founded in 2007 by local resident Russell Macmillian, who has since been able to give more than £1million to groups and individuals across the area.

Over the last few months alone, Russell has been able to help more than 4,400 people. This has included providing equipment for those with disabilities and laptops for schoolkids.

He said: “We want to say a huge thank-you to the Maidenhill consortium for this amazing £2,700 funding boost to East Renfrewshire Good Causes.

“Thanks to this, and the other roof donations, we have been able to give vital help to individuals and groups who need it most.”

Kimberly Curley, of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, described the work done by ERGC as “simply fantastic.”

She said: “We are so happy to be able to give these donations to such a worthy cause.”

Carol Higgins, a sales consultant for Cala Homes (West), added: “We’re over the moon to be handing our fourth roof donation to Russell and the team at ERGC.

“The work Russell does is invaluable to the community and I am sure it makes a huge difference to many people’s lives.”
