Families will soon be handed the keys to dozens of new environmentally-friendly homes in Barrhead.

Construction work at a derelict site in the town’s Dealston Road, which began last year, is due for completion this summer.

The Eden Grove development will feature a total of 35 homes, including eight for social housing.

There will be a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom properties for sale and rent.

They will contain the latest energy-efficient heating systems, high insulation standards and solar panels to help reduce energy consumption.

The new properties are being built by AS Homes on behalf of Barrhead Housing Association (BHA) and Briar Homes.

Funding of more than £650,000 has been provided to BHA by the Scottish Government to deliver the eight properties for social housing.

Lorna Wilson, BHA chief executive, told the Barrhead News: “It is fantastic to see this land at last being put to good use.

“There is a huge need for social housing across East Renfrewshire, including Barrhead.

“The range of homes being delivered at Eden Grove demonstrates the commitment to increasing the availability of affordable homes in the Barrhead area.”

Phil Daws, head of environment at East Renfrewshire Council, added: “We are delighted to support this development as part of the council’s priority for the provision of good quality, affordable housing for our residents.”

Paul Kelly, managing director at AS Homes, has also welcomed the progress being made at Eden Grove.

He said: “The project is bringing much-needed, highly energy-efficient homes to East Renfrewshire.”
