A NEW fitness class for mums which enables them to bring their babies along to workouts is going from strength to strength.

The buggy-friendly ‘Fit for Two’ body pump sessions at the Barrhead Foundry aim to make it easier for parents to exercise without having to arrange childcare.

Dads, grandparents and any others looking after wee ones in a pram or car seat are also welcome to join the classes, which are held every Thursday, starting at 12.30pm.

Fit for Two instructor Kirsteen Mackenzie said there is also an important social element to the new sessions.

She told the Barrhead News: “Finding the time to exercise when you’ve got a little one can be difficult.

“We give lots of options during the class for different levels and are mindful of mums who are returning to exercise after having their little ones.

“As well as being great exercise, these classes are a great way to meet other parents and babies.

“Also, the Barrhead Foundry has baby-changing facilities, parent parking and a cafe on site.”

Diane Bryant, who has been going along to the classes with her seven-month-old son Nathan, said she loves having the support of an instructor and getting the chance to chat with other mums.

The Foundry is also hosting ‘early bird’ fitness classes for those who would like to do a workout before the crack of dawn.

There are high intensity training (HIIT) sessions on Mondays and circuits sessions on Thursdays, with both classes starting at 6.15am.

A further circuits class has been added to the timetable at 9.30am on Wednesdays.

HIIT involves a series of body weight exercises performed at a high intensity for short periods, followed by a short rest interval.

Fitness instructor Jenna McCallion said: “We’re pleased to add these new classes to our extensive timetable.

“The early morning classes are perfect for those who like an energetic start to their day or want to fit their workout in before work.

“The first sessions have filled up fast on the gym floor and the feedback has been fantastic.”

Fitness classes are included in East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure’s fitness membership or on a pay-as-you-go basis.
