PART of a major road near Barrhead will be closed to traffic for around six weeks.

From February 14, a section of Nitshill Road will be shut between Levern Bridge Road and Barrhead Road.

Traffic will be diverted via Barrhead Road, Barrhead roundabout and Peat Road. Pedestrian access past the working area will be maintained.

Scottish Water bosses have liaised with Glasgow City Council’s roads department when planning the road traffic management – which is due to pipe installation work as part of the Glasgow Resilience Project.

The new mains will connect the Glasgow area’s water network and the system in Ayrshire to increase resilience and protect supplies for about one million customers, and is being installed in the Ibrox, Mosspark, Pollok, Priesthill, Nitshill and Parkhouse areas of Glasgow.

Scottish Water has apologised for any inconvenience and thanked affected road users in advance for their patience and understanding.
