Caring staff at an East Renfrewshire fitness centre have coined in hundreds of pounds for a worthy cause.

A number of fundraising activities, including a sponsored rowing event, took place at Anytime Fitness, in Clarkston, last month in aid of the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity (GCHC).

The team also organised a community litter-pick and displayed posters, banners and balloons at the club to raise awareness.

Members played their part by making donations via a Justgiving page.

A total of £550 was raised for the charity, which aims to ensure that every baby, child and young person treated at the Royal Hospital for Children, in Govan, receives the extra special care they deserve.

Josh McDonald, manager at the Busby Road club, has thanked all those who helped generate funds.

He told the Barrhead News: “As a locally-owned business, community and togetherness are so important to us and it’s been amazing to see everyone come together for this collective fundraising effort.”

The ‘row for charity’ event saw Anytime Fitness donate £1 to GCHC for every kilometre rowed on the club’s indoor machines.

This inspired many people to do their bit, with members and a number of staff from local businesses visiting to take part.

The team also worked with East Renfrewshire Council to host a community litter-pick, assembling a team of members, staff and local residents to clean up the streets of Clarkston.

Josh added: “We’d like to thank everyone who has donated or taken part in our events for their amazing generosity and support for a charity that is so close to our local community’s hearts.

“We’re excited to already be planning further activity throughout 2022 and are looking forward to further supporting our local community wherever we can.”
