A SCHOOL uniform bank has received a windfall from a local developer.

Glasgow's Pre-Loved Uniforms has received a £750 grant from CALA Homes as part of their community bursary initiative.

The Southside organisation recycles good quality school uniforms and passes them on to families in need across the city.

CALA Homes is currently building the Jordanhill Park and Prince's Quay developments and invited entries for the scheme which allowed organisations to apply for a share of £5000 to fund local projects.

Money will now go towards the running costs and purchase of equipment to help the charity to keep going.

Glasgow’s Pre-Loved Uniforms was chosen as one of the recipients, with money going towards the ongoing running costs and purchase of vital equipment for the charity to keep going, for example, fuelling the van for uniform deliveries, providing tea and coffee for volunteers, and purchasing clothes rails and donation bins – all of which relies on donations from the public.

Donna Henderson, Founder at Glasgow’s Pre-Loved Uniforms, said: “The stigma attached to being unable to go out and buy new school uniforms is the reason we have rails in the schools. The uniform bank ensures that children and young people can wear warm school uniforms, shoes and jackets that are in good condition, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

“Recycling is also so important these days, and using pre-loved uniforms helps with our carbon footprint, and means we are playing our part locally in helping save the planet and reduce waste. “This additional support from CALA Homes means we can continue to provide this invaluable service, not only to help families in financial difficulty, but to encourage the recycling of school uniforms to support sustainability.”

Louise Dunn, Marketing Manager at CALA Homes (West) said: “We are delighted to be supporting the work of Glasgow’s Pre-Loved Uniforms, and to know that the Bursary funding is helping the charity to continue the vital work it does in providing essential items to families in need – ensuring that children all have access to uniforms for school.”
