A COMMUNITY market fears it may not survive without urgent repairs to the surface of the lane it is held on.

The Park Lane Market on Pollokshaws Road takes place every first and fourth Sunday of the month and offers small businesses across the city the chance to sell their goods.

But the state of the lane means organisers Lewis Andrew and Harry Olorunda fear they may not be able to host it anymore.

Harry said that the lane has fallen into disrepair over the winter. He added: "The issue is, over winter it gets pretty bad. We've tried to do some patch work ourselves but we need the professionals for that.

Glasgow Times:

"Our market is something we've done for the community. We started it about four years ago as a bit of fun just to help artists but it's become a part of Shawlands now.

"We don't charge an arm and a leg for tables. It's something for the community to do on a Sunday to go for a walk and look around the stalls."

Glasgow Times:

"It's got to a situation now where it's pretty untenable.

"We might not be able to do it again. Safety is paramount. We've got disabled people who come, people in wheelchairs and I don't think it's fair when people can't have access to it. It's becoming very popular because it's becoming the case that everyone wants to live there."

Harry and Lewis are looking to raise around £5000 to repair the lane which is dotted with large potholes and crumbling tarmac.

They have launched a fundraiser which has already raised around 20 percent of the money needed. The market is a social-enterprise and any cash raised from table rentals goes back into the running costs of the market. Harry added: "It would be nice to reach the target so that everyone can see where the money has gone."
