A THUG broke a stranger’s front door after trying to force his way into their home.

Stuart Cunningham, 36, attempted to enter the property in Fernbrae Avenue, Rutherglen, at 10pm on Bonfire Night 2020.

The victim, who was within the property with his sister at the time, heard knocking at the door and noticed the accused to be heavily intoxicated when he answered.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, procurator fiscal depute Victoria Keel said: “The accused made attempts to push the front door open which was stopped by the householder.

“A struggle then ensued and the front door was cracked and broken at the hinges causing it to fall inwards. The householder instructed his sister to phone the police, and the accused then made off.”

When officers attended, a description of the accused was provided, and he was traced.

Ms Keel added: “The accused shouted, ‘what the f**k are you stopping me for, I have done f**k all wrong’. Police thereafter had reason to search him.

“A yellow tub containing 0.6g of brown powder was recovered from his jacket pocket. He was cautioned and charged and stated ‘it’s no my brown, yous are f*****g clowns’.

“He then began to scream ‘help, it’s the f*****g polis, get the f**k aff me you daft c***s’. He was thereafter cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

The drugs later tested positive for heroin.

Cunningham appeared in court to be sentenced after previously pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening abusive manner.

The court heard that Cunningham thought the home was a member of his family’s.

Sheriff Vincent Lunny said: “So, there was nothing sinister between the parties, but it would have been a frightening experience for the occupants of the home.”

He asked if those in the house owned the property, however, the information was not available.

The sheriff decided to recall the matter at a later date in order to find out if the damage caused the complainers to be out of pocket or if it was covered by a third party.

Cunningham, of Rutherglen, will return to court later this month.
