AN East Renfrewshire property professional is setting up a business directory and networking group to help local firms support each other.

Fraser Kelly is calling on those running their own companies to let him know if this is something they would like to take part in.

The 31-year-old estate agent hopes the initiative can help firms flourish at a time when the Covid pandemic has made things challenging.

Fraser told the Barrhead News: “I couldn’t find any networking groups or business directories for anybody in Barrhead or Newton Mearns to support each other.

“There are so many different businesses operating here, so it seems like there is a bit of a gap.

“It’s just about highlighting what great local businesses there are and hopefully helping them meet up and refer each other to local people.”

Although the project is still in its early stages, around 10 businesses have already expressed an interest in taking part.

Fraser is initially focusing on Barrhead and Newton Mearns but would also be happy to hear from firms in the likes of Neilston, Uplawmoor, Giffnock and Clarkston.

The dad-of-one set himself up as an independent estate agent covering Barrhead and Newton Mearns, partnered with national estate agency Keller Williams, last year.

Along with his wife Jen, he also runs Kelly Property Scotland, which renovates properties in Barrhead.

Fraser wants the new business directory to be free and inclusive.

“I thought a directory could be a good idea for local people as well,” he said. “If you’re trying to find a local plumber, you can use Google but it can be quite a laborious process.

“If there is a local directory that has a list of different occupations and services, then you can find people who actually work and live on your doorstep.

“I would ask any business that is keen to be involved to get in touch. It doesn’t matter if you are a one-man band or a larger business.”
