DETECTIVES are still hunting thieves who stole at least £100k of Asian gold jewellery from a home on the outskirts of Barrhead.

In July 2020, a house on Whitacres Road, in Parkhouse, was broken into and raided by robbers, who got away with a six-figure sum of Asian gold jewellery and clothes.

The homeowners were out at the time.

It has since emerged that no arrests have been made following the burglary. It comes after cops have been patrolling the same street over the last few days.

A mobile police office has since been set up on Whitacres Road after recent thefts from homes.

And a special police operation is ongoing aimed at helping to find those responsible for the housebreakings.

Local councillor for the Nitshill area Rashid Hussain, who said there has been "two or three" incidents since the New Year, paid a visit to the mobile police unit on Wednesday.

He said: "Local residents are concerned, and they are worried. The neighbourhood watch is being very active at the moment and the community is welcoming the response they’ve had from the police.

"I spoke with the officers. I know that action is being taken. They’ve had unmarked and marked police vehicles patrolling the area as well as foot patrols. Officers in motorbikes are also covering the fields so the police are being visible.

"And then there's also the mobile police unit so the residents can share their concerns. There has been a good police response."

The mobile office was deployed on Wednesday to provide public reassurance and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Ryan McMurdo, local community policing inspector, previously said: "Between November 2021 and January 2022, there have been a number of high-value housebreakings in the South Nitshill area and enquiries are ongoing in that regard.

"Officers are currently carrying out mobile patrols and have stationed a mobile unit in the area to provide public reassurance and would encourage residents to approach these officers with any information or concerns they may have.

"Officers will also be providing crime prevention advice, including home and personal security advice.

"Police are working closely with the local community and elected members with regard to the incidents."
