IDEAS are being sought for ways to spend a £15,000 community cash pot provided by Barrhead Housing Association.

The organisation has launched its Community Projects Fund, with grants of up to £1,000 on offer for initiatives that improve life for local residents.

Anyone can apply for the cash, provided they live in the G78 postcode area, which covers Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor.

The initiative is being supported by the Scottish Government and the National Lottery.

A spokesperson for Barrhead Housing Association said: “This is recognised as a way for local people to have a direct say in how public funds can be used to address the needs of the local community.

“We are calling for project ideas from individuals, groups and organisations.”

Applications must be submitted by Monday, January 31, and the projects must benefit the local community, as well as supporting Barrhead Housing Association aims such as tackling inequality, enhancing health and creating employment.

All residents aged over 12 will be able to vote for their favourite projects at an event in Barrhead on Saturday, March 5, where the winners will be announced.

If the number of applications is larger than expected, a shortlist will be compiled before votes are cast.

Those who submitted applications that are unsuccessful will be given help to find other types of funding for their ideas.

After the deadline for applications, Barrhead Housing Association will hold workshops to help people present their cases on March 5, which must be in a storybook format.

All funding awarded in March must be used over the next 12 months.

Successful applicants must also submit detailed reports during that period, showing how and where the money was spent.
