A BUDDING artist at a Barrhead school has designs on success after winning a competition to create a Christmas card for the town’s MSP.
Isla Thomson, of Cross Arthurlie Primary, is one of two youngsters whose designs were chosen by Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur.
Hundreds of entries from primary school pupils across the constituency were submitted for the Christmas card design contest, which was reinstated this year following a hiatus in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Entrants were asked to create an image under the theme of ‘Christmas in the Community,’ with the winning designs appearing on Mr Arthur’s annual festive card, which has been sent to the likes of constituents, businesses and other local elected members.
Isla impressed the SNP man with her colourful design of a festive scene, complete with snowmen and Christmas trees.
The other winner was Chisom Ononye, who attends St Margaret’s Primary, in Johnstone.
Mr Arthur said: “My annual Christmas card competition is always one of the highlights of my year and a fantastic way to kick-start the countdown to the festive celebrations.
“I am blown away every time by the wonderful entries from primary pupils across Renfrewshire South and this year has been no exception.
“It was so difficult to choose just two designs.”
