A PERSON has died on a railway line near Barrhead.

Emergency services received reports of a casualty on the tracks between Barrhead and Dunlop at 10.43am today, with trains services running through these stations affected by the incident.

British Transport Police confirmed a person was pronounced dead at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

A spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Barrhead at 10.43am this morning (December 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."

Replacement buses have been operating between Barrhead and Kilmarnock this afternoon.

ScotRail says the disruption on services between Glasgow and Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carlisle is expected to last until 2pm on Friday.
