A BARRHEAD group is bidding for a cash boost from the Tesco Community Grants initiative.

Shoppers who visit the town’s Tesco store are given a blue token which they can use to vote for one of three worthy causes in the running for financial support.

And the team at Dunterlie Foodshare are urging people to back their bid for a much-needed windfall.

Spokeswoman Rena McGuire said: “I think Tesco’s initiative is great, as it benefits the community of Barrhead is so many ways.

“There are no barriers to coming to Dunterlie Foodshare. We’re giving out around 30 bags each week.

“We operate in the G78 postcode area, so it’s not just for those living in Dunterlie.”

Tesco works with community charity Groundwork to run the grants scheme.

Voting is open until December 31, with customers able to cast their vote using a token given to them at the checkout each time they shop.
