YOUNG footballers paid a visit to a Barrhead business to thank the owners for their support.

A sponsorship deal with Frankiez Cafe Bar meant players from Barrhead Youth Football Club’s 2010 team could afford new kit.

And they showed their appreciation by popping into the Carlibar Road venue to present owner Stuart Downer with a framed shirt, as well as taking along a trophy they won at a recent tournament in Neilston.

Stuart told the Barrhead News: “We were quite overwhelmed when the players showed up. We were only expecting the coach and a few kids but then the whole team was there.

“It was great to give the kids an opportunity to come in and see the place and meet us."

Frankiez opened in August last year but was only able to operate for seven weeks before being forced to close again as a result of the Covid pandemic.

However, with most restrictions now eased, Stuart is looking forward to a bright future for the business.

He said: “We were due to open in March last year but we had to put that back to August. Then, unfortunately, we were closed for seven months.

"My wife and I originally come from Barrhead and we saw this as an opportunity as, when we stayed in the town, there wasn’t a business like ours.”
