A BARRHEAD mum has told how buying her dream home led to a new career.

Jeri Ryan, 35, moved into a four-bedroom property at Miller Homes’ Springhill Meadows development two years ago.

While she found styling her “blank canvas” home daunting at first, she fell in love with design and has since gained more than 11,000 followers on her Instagram account @home_style_glasgow.

Jeri, who is mum to daughters Mia, 11, and Paige, nine, now helps homebuyers across the UK transform their new pad as an online interior stylist.

She said: “I never expected that buying my Miller home would lead me to a whole new part of my career but my interiors blog took off and I am so passionate about it.

“I started my account because I was learning so much and thought it might be helpful to share the process with others.

“It gathered so much momentum and led to me studying an online interior design course during lockdown last year, which was challenging but rewarding.

“I’m now making mood boards for people all over the UK, supporting them on their design journey and helping them style their homes on their budget.”

One of Jeri’s top tips for those decorating a new home is to gather inspiration online and create a mood board for each room.

She said: “I’ve always loved interiors and think it’s essential to be organised in your home, as it makes things a lot easier to manage.

“The great thing about a new-build home is you can start from a clean slate but, to avoid being overwhelmed, it is worth taking time to get the basics in place – or at least planned out – before you move in.

“I always say that I want my home to look nice but it has to be functional.

“I think it’s worth spending a bit of extra money where you can on getting things exactly how you want them. Otherwise, you can end up paying more in the long run because you’ll just change it.

“I love freshening up our interiors with small touches, plants, cushions or even towels. As long as you get the big purchase items correct at the start, it’s easier to swap things around and bring in new accessories now and again.”
