Motorists are being warned to expect disruption as work on a sprawling housing development in East Renfrewshire leads to overnight road closures.

A programme of road improvements, including resurfacing work, being carried out by Luddon Construction on the A726 Glasgow Southern Orbital (GSO) route began in mid-August.

To allow the resurfacing to be completed, the eastbound carriageway of the GSO between Maidenhill and Mearnskirk junctions will be closed from 8pm until 6am for four nights, starting on Monday, October 18.

The roadworks, which are being funded by housebuilders Taylor Wimpey, will pave the way for a new access road into the Maidenhill development, in Newton Mearns, as required by the original planning approval granted by East Renfrewshire Council.

Alison Henderson, special projects manager at the Maidenhill development, said: “Diversion routes will be well signposted and, should we have to make any changes as a result of the weather, we will announce this as far in advance as possible.”
