A DINOSAUR-THEMED treasure hunt that proved to be a roaring success with East Renfrewshire families this summer is heading to a Barrhead park.

DinoCHUMs East Ren is an app-based challenge which rewards sustainable travel for commuting and leisure trips and encourages regular activity amongst people who live and work in the local area.

The free event was a monster hit when it took place at Rouken Glen Park, in Giffnock, throughout July.

And organisers are sure there will be similar interest when it makes a triumphant return at Cowan Park from Thursday, October 7, until Wednesday, October 20.

Among those who took part in the challenge during July were Carrie Hornal and her children Logan and Holly, who won a £50 voucher for Blair Drummond Safari Park.

Carrie told the Barrhead News: “We really enjoyed the dino hunt.

“It’s a great way to explore a place. The kids loved getting out with their friends and solving the clues.”

The treasure hunt is part of the free-to-join Choose How U Move East Ren programme, which helps people get active, earn rewards and support local traders and charities.

Those who want to take part in DinoCHUMs East Ren can download the app onto their smartphone, register their details and join the Choose How U Move East Ren programme.

They can then use the app to track their active journeys and earn rewards.

There will be up to 10 ‘Dino friends’ to find in Cowan Park by following instructions on the app and solving the clues.

East Renfrewshire Council leader Tony Buchanan said: “We are really excited that the DinoCHUMs treasure hunt, which so many families enjoyed the first time round, is returning to the new location of Cowan Park.

“This not only provides great access for people from Barrhead but also an opportunity for other residents to get involved in the Choose How U Move East Ren programme.

“We hope to see many more families out enjoying the crisp autumn weather.”
