PEOPLE in East Renfrewshire will be able to access in person support as Macmillan Cancer services reopen.

During the pandemic, sessions could only be offered over the phone and through video calls, and now with the easing of restrictions, it has allowed the partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure to resume face-to-face help.

Initially provided on an appointment-only basis, the project plans to move to drop-in support in the coming weeks at the Barrhead Foundry and Clarkston Library.

Volunteer Coordinator Vanessa Taylor, told the Barrhead News: “We know people might be nervous about coming in to use our service because of the coronavirus pandemic, and we take the safety of those who use our service very seriously.

“We follow the Scottish Government’s Covid guidance for libraries, and have put in place measures to help keep everyone safe. There’s hand sanitiser, enhanced cleaning and we comply with the contact tracing system.”

The project’s dedicated team of trained volunteers started delivering weekly information and support sessions this month.

“Our spaces are still bright and welcoming, with comfy sofas and arm chairs and a range of Macmillan information on a whole range of issues relating to cancer,” Ms Taylor added.

“Our volunteers are there to listen and help people find out about other sources of support.”

Information and support sessions are currently offered at the Foundry on Wednesday mornings and Clarkston Library on Fridays.

To book an appointment email, macmillan@ercultureandleisure.org or call 07867 441579 or 07867 441486.

For those who cannot make it in or prefer not to come in person, alternative support is available.
