THE future of two East Renfrewshire groups is looking bright thanks to a Lottery windfall.

Cosgrove Care, based in Giffnock, has been handed £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund to operate a weekly club for children aged five to 18 with learning disabilities and additional needs.

The charity’s Bright Futures club will service youngsters who live in East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire.

Mearns Kirk Helping Hands, which promotes a wide range of support services in the Newton Mearns community, is the second good cause in the local area to receive a grant in the latest round of funding.

Vicky Attwood, the charity’s project manager, said the group were “over the moon” to receive the £6,000 funding boost.

She told the Barrhead News: “It will be used towards maintaining our volunteer co-ordinator in a full-time post, who will be recruiting, supporting, training and developing our group of volunteers.”

Kate Still, Scotland chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “As we continue to feel the impact of the pandemic, community projects like the ones receiving funding today are vital in helping to keep spirits alive and people connected.”
