Barrhead Housing Association has announced a £1million programme of improvements to people’s homes.

Every one of the organisation’s 959 properties in the town and neighbouring Neilston will be upgraded in the next 12 months.

The project includes bathroom replacements at Centenary Court, in Barrhead. This work is already underway and is due to be finished by the end of this month.

Barrhead tenants living in Robertson Street, John Street and Barnes Street will have their boilers replaced in September.

And, in Neilston, new kitchens will be installed in all homes in McCulloch Way and Station Road the following month.

Windows and doors will also be replaced in all properties in Saunders Court, Barrhead. This work will not begin until next April, to allow building warrants to be obtained.

All 959 properties in Barrhead and Neilston will be brought up to Scottish Government fire safety standards, including smoke alarms.

Checks will also be made to ensure houses and flats are energy efficient.

A further programme will be announced in December, outlining plans to meet carbon emission targets by 2025 and 2032.

Bosses at Barrhead Housing Association (BHA) say contracts are currently being tendered to carry out their proposed seven-figure investment and improvement programme.

They are also investing a further £410,000 annually on a rolling programme of routine maintenance, including landscaping and painting of homes.

Housing chiefs announced details of the renovation project in their quarterly newsletter.

It stated: “BHA will be in contact with those tenants due to receive home improvements this year and in the coming months to confirm the process and timeline for each programme.”

Information on the properties included in the programme will be available this month on the housing association’s website.

The BHA say a total of £1,031,000 has been allocated for the repair work, excluding the £400,000 maintenance costs.

Chief executive officer Lorna Wilson added: “Our aspiration is to give customers homes they love.

“This investment programme is designed to enrich our customers’ enjoyment of their homes and protect the properties for many years to come.”
