A NEILSTON mum shed more than seven stone in 15 months after being consumed by discomfort on a family holiday to Spain and vowing to change her life.

Shona Corfield had not been abroad for 12 years and was ecstatic to make the trip to Salou in 2019 with husband Paul and her sons Keir and Ewan.

She had a great time but her unhappiness with her size was highlighted when she wasn’t able to pull the table down on the plane.

“Being unable to click the table into place was the first thing that really upset me, not to mention not being able to walk very far in 30-degree heat,” Shona told the Barrhead News.

“I felt so embarrassed at wearing a swimming costume around the pool, I didn’t even venture to the beach.

“Even everyday life at home was becoming a struggle. I have always been a happy and positive person but I was feeling so disappointed, sore and had no confidence.

“Driving was becoming an issue as well, as there wasn’t much room to move due to my stomach almost touching the steering wheel.

“I had previously joined WeightWatchers [now known as WW] online in July 2018 and lost just over two stone but I lost my way and carried on eating and drinking like I had before.

“I never cancelled my account and I continued to pay the monthly fee in the hope that, one day, I would get back to it. That day happened in January 2020, when I’d just had enough.”

With the support of the WW app, family and friends, the mum-of-two reached her target weight of 9st 8lbs and has felt her confidence soar.

Shona now hopes her story can be an inspiration to others who are thinking of losing weight or have already started but are struggling.

“We had booked a holiday for Fuerteventura for the summer of 2020 and I was not prepared to go through the same feelings as I had the year before,” she added.

“Two months into my weight loss journey, however, the world was hit with a pandemic, which I decided to use to my advantage.

“Many people turned to comfort eating and drinking in their own homes but I concentrated on how much weight I could lose before I saw people again.

“Where once I struggled with stairs and had to use the banister to pull myself up, I now run up them.”
